Design Technology and Creative Design & Innovation

Design Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, technology and art. Pupils learn how to take risks and become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and header-5technology, they develop a critical understanding of the impact technology has on daily life and the wider world. High- quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

Structure:

  • Creative Thinking & Innovation [Grades 10-12] [Ages 15-17]
  • Emphasis on Engineering
    • Term 1 [10 weeks]: General Design Technology Concepts.
    • Term 2 [10 Weeks]: Introduction to 3D drawing software.
    • Term 3 [10 Weeks]: Arduino Microcontrollers, 3D printing and electronics
  • Engagement time: – 1.5 hours per week
  • Design & Technology Grades 4-9 [Ages 9-14]
  • Emphasis on Traditional Design and Technology, Robotics and Programming.
    • Term 1 [10 weeks]: General Design Technology Concepts.
    • Term 2 [10 Weeks]: Introduction to Robotics and Programming.
    • Term 3 [10 Weeks]: Robotics, Programming and Introduction to Coding.
  • Engagement time: – 1.5 hours per week
